1. Quiet a Squeaky Door Hinge

When a door begins squeaking every time it opens, friction between the moving metal parts of the hinge is often responsible. A tiny quantity of petroleum jelly can provide temporary lubrication.

Put a very small amount around the hinge pin and work the door backward and forward several times. The movement helps distribute it through the contact area.

Petroleum jelly is highly water-repellent.

I wouldn’t smear Vaseline across painted door panels, unfinished or porous wood, rubber weather seals, or inside a key cylinder. Petroleum jelly can leave greasy marks on porous surfaces, and locks are better maintained with products specifically intended for their mechanisms.

Think hinge and appropriate metal contact points, rather than literally covering “the door.”

The 30-Second Door Trick

If I had a squeaky interior door right now, this is exactly what I’d do.

I’d take a cotton swab, pick up a tiny amount of petroleum jelly, rub it around the hinge pin where the moving pieces meet, then open and close the door about ten times.

Finally, I’d wipe away everything visible.

That’s it.

No expensive equipment, no dismantling the entire door, and no mysterious secret known only by wealthy homeowners.
