For years, Katie Holmes managed to accomplish something remarkably difficult for a woman whose personal life once generated headlines around the world: she became private again.
After her marriage to Tom Cruise, her long relationship with Jamie Foxx and a handful of shorter romances, Holmes largely stopped making her love life part of her public identity. She raised her daughter, Suri, in New York, focused on acting and directing, and was often photographed walking through Manhattan alone.
Then, this summer, somebody new appeared beside her.
His name is Jason Bard Yarmosky, a New York artist nine years younger than Holmes, and what initially looked like a quiet summer romance has quickly become considerably more public.
They have held hands in the Hamptons, vacationed together in Italy, shared intimate photographs online and attended fashion shows side by side. Just days ago, Holmes and Yarmosky took their relationship international with an appearance together at Milan Fashion Week. People.com
But as photographs of the couple circulate online, some viewers have begun scrutinizing individual gestures and expressions — including street images like the one that inspired claims about his supposed “wrong” behavior.
The photographs may capture a moment. What they cannot reliably reveal is what someone is thinking or feeling.
It began with a very public hand-hold
Holmes, 47, and Yarmosky, 38, first generated romance headlines in July.
On July 10, they arrived hand in hand at a screening of The Invite in East Hampton.
The interaction didn’t end when photographers disappeared.
An eyewitness told People that Yarmosky whispered into Holmes’ ear and made her laugh during the evening. The pair reportedly sat together during the movie, and at one point Holmes rested her head on his shoulder. People.com
It was enough to make the relationship difficult to dismiss as friendship.
Soon afterward, they were photographed together again in Manhattan.
This time they were walking arm in arm and displaying considerably more affection.
TMZ reported that the two had met at a Tribeca Festival dinner the previous month and had been enjoying each other’s company since. TMZ

So who exactly is the man beside her?
Yarmosky isn’t an actor, musician or conventional Hollywood celebrity.
He’s a visual artist.
Raised in New York, he graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2010 and became known for paintings examining aging, memory and the passage of time.
Some of his best-known early work centered on his grandparents, whom he painted in elaborate and sometimes unexpected settings. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Brooklyn Museum and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. People.com
In other words, he occupies a world adjacent to celebrity rather than directly inside it.
That may be part of what Holmes finds appealing.
A source told People that the actress has long been attracted to creative people who are passionate about their work and enjoys discovering new experiences through them. People.com
And Yarmosky certainly fits that description.
Their first official appearance came quickly
By July 24, hiding was apparently no longer part of the plan.
Holmes and Yarmosky attended a Ferragamo event at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, marking their first official public appearance as a couple.
They even arrived in subtly coordinated navy outfits.
When Elle asked Holmes about their matching style, she offered a wonderfully simple explanation: they apparently just have similar taste. ELLE
Photographs showed them relaxed together.
More appearances followed.
They attended a Michael Kors event in August, where they were photographed displaying affection, and gradually began allowing glimpses of the relationship onto social media. Just Jared
For someone who had guarded her romantic life so carefully, Holmes appeared unusually comfortable letting this relationship be seen.
Then came their romantic summer in Italy
The relationship took another step during the summer.
Holmes and Yarmosky traveled together in Italy and later shared photographs from their vacation.
The images weren’t the traditional polished celebrity-couple shoot. Instead, they showed small moments photographed through each other’s eyes, along with views of the coast and their surroundings.
Yarmosky captioned one collection with a characteristically artistic observation: “life is a friend of art.” ELLE
The photographs offered a rare window into Holmes’ private life.
For years, the actress had generally avoided presenting her relationships online.
Now she was allowing followers into one.
Why one photograph doesn’t tell us what is happening between them
That context matters when individual street photographs begin generating criticism.
Celebrity images frequently freeze people in fractions of a second.
Someone looks away.
Someone releases a hand.
Someone walks several feet ahead.
A person’s face happens to look irritated just as a shutter clicks.
Online, those moments can quickly become supposed evidence of tension, anger or problems inside a relationship.
But body language in a single photograph cannot establish someone’s intentions or emotional state.
There is no credible evidence that Yarmosky behaved improperly toward Holmes in the moment shown in the circulating image, and descriptions such as “I can see it in his eyes” are interpretations from viewers rather than verifiable facts.
The broader photographic record from the past several months actually contains many openly affectionate moments between them.
That doesn’t prove anything about the private state of their relationship either.
It simply illustrates why one photograph shouldn’t be treated as a psychological diagnosis.
Holmes has lived through this kind of scrutiny before
Few actresses understand that lesson better.
Holmes was only 19 when Dawson’s Creek made her famous.
Her early relationship with co-star Joshua Jackson attracted attention, as did her engagement to actor Chris Klein.
But nothing compared with what happened when she began dating Tom Cruise in 2005.
Their relationship became one of the defining celebrity stories of the era.
They welcomed daughter Suri in April 2006 and married later that year. Holmes filed for divorce in 2012. ELLE
Her subsequent relationship with Jamie Foxx was handled very differently.
The pair kept much of their romance private for years, rarely speaking publicly about one another.
By the time Holmes returned to dating publicly, she had clearly learned how quickly photographs could become narratives.
Her daughter is now grown
There is another enormous difference between Holmes’ life then and now.
Suri is no longer the little girl photographers once captured holding her mother’s hand around Manhattan.
She is 20.
Holmes spent much of the period following her divorce creating a relatively ordinary New York upbringing for her daughter despite the extraordinary fame surrounding the family.
As Suri entered adulthood, Holmes also entered a different stage of her own life.
At 47, she has expanded beyond acting into directing and writing, while her fashion choices have unexpectedly turned her into one of New York’s most closely watched street-style figures.
Her romance with Yarmosky arrives during that chapter — not during the chaotic celebrity period of her twenties and thirties.
In September, they made another major public step
By early September, Holmes was no longer simply being photographed with Yarmosky.
The couple appeared together during New York Fashion Week.
On September 9, they attended the Cult Gaia show and sat together in the front row alongside figures including Iman and Helena Christensen.
Outside, they were photographed holding hands. ELLE
Then came another milestone.
On September 25, they attended Tod’s Spring 2027 show during Milan Fashion Week.
Holmes wore a cream trench coat and wide-leg trousers while Yarmosky appeared beside her in a deliberately understated outfit.
Once again, they posed together and were photographed looking relaxed as a couple. Vogue
What began as a hand-holding photograph in East Hampton had become an international fashion-week romance in less than three months.
The rare photos tell a different story when viewed together
Perhaps that is why the growing collection of photographs is more revealing than any single image.
One shows Holmes laughing beside him.
Another captures them holding hands.
Others show formal fashion appearances.
Vacation pictures reveal quieter moments away from red carpets.
And then there are ordinary street photographs — the kind that can look dramatically different depending on the exact second a photographer presses the shutter.
Taken together, the RARE PHOTOS of Katie Holmes and Jason Bard Yarmosky’s relationship document something Holmes hasn’t shown publicly in several years: a new relationship gradually moving from private dinners into everyday life.
Whether it becomes permanent is something only they can know.
But one thing is already clear.
After years of keeping romance largely outside public view, Katie Holmes has stopped hiding the man beside her — and Jason Bard Yarmosky is becoming an increasingly visible part of her world.
