For weeks after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved their family back to Britain, there was one conspicuous absence from the public eye.
Meghan.
Harry had already returned to the spotlight, attending the Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner & Awards in London on September 17 and later making another solo appearance at the WellChild Awards. But her first photographed outing wasn’t beside her husband at one of his charity events.
Instead, the 45-year-old was spotted laughing and chatting at a country pub with one of America’s most recognizable television personalities: Ellen DeGeneres.
Meghan was spotted at an 18th-century pub in the Cotswolds
Meghan joined Ellen, 68, and Ellen’s wife, actress Portia de Rossi, 53, at The Three Horseshoes near Burford in Oxfordshire.
Photos from the outing showed Meghan dressed far more casually than royal watchers were accustomed to seeing during her years as a working member of the royal family.
She wore white trousers, a pale blue top, white sneakers and sunglasses as she chatted with her friends outside the historic pub. Her security detail was also visible nearby. (Page Six)

And no Harry.

Archie and Lilibet’s return to Britain represents a particularly significant change.
The children spent most of their lives in California.
Now they’re attending school in England.
Reports said their schooling arrangements were altered following discussions with the Sussexes’ security team, with practical concerns surrounding travel and logistics playing a role. For years, Meghan’s relationship with Britain had been defined by distance.

That conversation became one of the defining moments of the Sussexes’ break with the institution.
Ellen represents another connection to the celebrity world Meghan built around herself in California.
So seeing Meghan reunite with Ellen shortly after returning to Britain inevitably revived comparisons between her two worlds.

Royal Britain on the other.
Except Meghan’s life now seems to contain pieces of both.
The most surprising thing about the photographs may be how normal they look
After years of headlines about security, royal tensions and whether Meghan would ever spend significant time in Britain again, her first photographed outing wasn’t especially dramatic.
