Prince Harry’s return to Britain has reopened a family story that never truly disappeared.
After years of estrangement, interviews, a bestselling memoir and long periods of limited contact, Harry has recently taken significant steps toward rebuilding his relationship with his father, King Charles III. His relationship with his older brother, Prince William, however, remains far more distant.
Now, a new report suggests that Charles and William — despite approaching Harry very differently on a personal level — have reached the same conclusion on one important issue.

Harry’s Return Has Put the Family Rift Back Under the Spotlight
Harry and Meghan returned to the U.K. in August 2026 with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after spending six years primarily based in the United States. For Charles and Harry, it represented movement in a relationship that had been deeply strained.

A personal relationship can potentially be rebuilt while Harry’s official position remains unchanged.
With William, the Situation Is Very Different
The more difficult relationship remains the one between the two brothers.
Harry and William have lived through extraordinary experiences together. They lost their mother, Princess Diana, when they were just 12 and 15. They grew up under intense public scrutiny and spent years appearing side by side as adults.
But the relationship deteriorated dramatically.
Harry documented some of their most painful disagreements in his 2023 memoir, Spare, including his allegation that an argument between the brothers became physical.

In other words, William’s position reportedly isn’t that Charles must choose between his sons.
Charles can be Harry’s father.
William can maintain his distance.
And both can simultaneously agree about Harry’s official position within the monarchy.
That is the “united” decision at the center of the latest reports.
Harry and Meghan Remain Members of the Family — But Not Working Royals
This distinction has followed the Sussexes since 2020.
Harry remains King Charles’ son and fifth in line to the throne. Harry and Meghan also continue to have public profiles, charitable projects and commercial interests.
But those activities don’t automatically become royal engagements simply because Harry is the King’s son.
