Kelly Osbourne has never been afraid of changing her appearance. For years, her lavender hair was practically part of her identity, and more recently she surprised followers by embracing blonde. But when the 41-year-old appeared at London Fashion Week on September 18, she unveiled such a dramatic transformation that some people admitted they initially thought they were looking at her mother, Sharon Osbourne.
The familiar long blonde hair was gone. In its place was a glossy jet-black rounded bob, cut close around Kelly’s face and finished with an asymmetric fringe that swept across one eye. The hairstyle transformed her entire appearance — but there was something about the makeover that photographs alone couldn’t reveal.
Kelly’s dramatic return to the runway

Her father, Ozzy Osbourne, became permanently associated with bats following his notorious 1982 concert in Des Moines. Decades later, the bat remained one of the most recognizable symbols connected with the Black Sabbath frontman.
Ozzy died in July 2025 at 76, and Kelly’s London Fashion Week accessory was widely understood as a tribute to him. Reporting around the show said the ornament had belonged to her father.

Kelly has spoken unusually openly about what happened to her after Ozzy’s death.
Just days before the fashion show, she discussed her grief on the We Need to Talk podcast and revealed that she had relapsed with alcohol during the extraordinarily difficult period following her father’s death. She subsequently returned to sobriety and said she had reached eight months sober.
The grief also affected her physically.
Kelly has described experiencing dramatic weight loss because she struggled to eat, and she previously explained that she sometimes wore wigs to disguise how thin her face had become. Stylists, she said, also attempted to choose clothing that wouldn’t further emphasize the change in her body.
That history makes the wig she wore at London Fashion Week unexpectedly poignant.
A wig had once helped her hide during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Now another wig became part of a highly visible return to the runway.
A mother-daughter bond in a changed family
Through that period, Kelly has repeatedly emphasized the importance of her family. Sharon and Kelly have lived much of their relationship publicly, from their chaotic early reality-TV years to red carpets and deeply personal family moments.
And after Ozzy’s death, their bond inevitably entered a different chapter.
The photographs that prompted viewers to say Kelly suddenly looked “just like her mom” therefore arrived at an emotional moment for both women. It wasn’t simply that Kelly had adopted a hairstyle reminiscent of Sharon’s. Viewers were seeing a daughter rebuilding her public life after the loss that had profoundly changed their family.
