Kathie Lee Gifford has spent most of her adult life in front of television cameras.
For decades, viewers watched her beside Regis Philbin and later Hoda Kotb, seeing virtually every stage of her life unfold on morning television. Her hairstyles changed, fashions came and went, and the young singer and television personality audiences first met eventually became one of America’s most recognizable daytime hosts.
Now, at 72, new photographs of Gifford are once again attracting attention to her appearance.
Her smooth complexion and glamorous styling have inevitably revived an old question: Has Kathie Lee Gifford had a facelift?
The answer, according to Gifford herself, is surprisingly clear.
She says she hasn’t — and doesn’t intend to.
She has been answering the facelift question for years
Speculation surrounding Gifford’s face isn’t new.
Back in 2015, she confronted the rumors directly during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. When Andy Cohen asked about cosmetic work, Gifford specifically denied having undergone a facelift.
Then she took the demonstration considerably further.
She pulled back her hair and allowed Hoda Kotb to inspect behind her ears, jokingly challenging the cameras to find surgical scars. E! Online
A decade later, her answer hadn’t changed.
In a February 2025 interview, Gifford again said she had never had a facelift and didn’t plan to have one. She explained that although she wants to look good, she doesn’t want the pursuit of youth to control her life. Fox News
That doesn’t mean she has rejected every cosmetic treatment.

Her philosophy about cosmetic work has always been complicated
Gifford hasn’t spent her career condemning women who choose cosmetic surgery.
Quite the opposite.
Years ago, when discussing plastic surgery with Time, she described it as a perfectly reasonable personal choice for someone who wants it. What concerned her more was becoming consumed by repeatedly altering one’s appearance. Time
Even then, she joked that although she could probably use a facelift, there were other parts of her body she was far more interested in fixing.
That combination of humor and bluntness became part of Gifford’s television persona.
She was willing to talk about aging.
She was willing to joke about her body.
And she didn’t pretend that watching yourself grow older under studio lights was always easy.
The before-and-after photographs span nearly half a century
That context matters when looking at photographs of Gifford today.
She was born in 1953 and entered entertainment while still young. Before morning television made her a household name, she worked as a singer and performer.
Then came the career-changing partnership with Regis Philbin.
Gifford joined The Morning Show in 1985. It eventually became the nationally syndicated Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee, turning the pair into daytime-TV fixtures.
For 15 years, audiences saw her almost every weekday.
The photographs from that era show the unmistakable beauty trends of the 1980s and ’90s: voluminous blonde hair, pronounced blush, bright lipstick and statement jewelry.
Compare those images with photographs taken in her 70s and, naturally, the difference is dramatic.
Then came another television chapter with Hoda
Eight years after leaving Live, Gifford returned to daily television.
In 2008, she joined Hoda Kotb for the fourth hour of NBC’s Today.
The pairing became another defining chapter of her career.
Their chemistry was deliberately loose and conversational. They drank wine, discussed relationships, teased one another and regularly wandered into topics that would have felt wildly personal on a conventional morning-news program.
That included beauty and aging.
Gifford remained on the program until 2019, meaning viewers effectively watched her face change on television from her early 30s into her mid-60s.
Few celebrities have such an extensive public photographic record.
At 72, she’s talking about aging very differently
Gifford’s recent conversations about getting older have been considerably more serious.
In March 2026, she dismissed the romantic idea of later life automatically becoming the “golden years,” explaining that the body inevitably remembers everything it has endured. People.com
And she knows that firsthand.
Her recent medical history has been difficult.
Gifford underwent a total hip replacement in 2024. During her recovery, she fractured her pelvis and required additional treatment. More recently, she has dealt with a broken arm, another fall and cataract surgery. People.com
She told People in June that the physical pain had at times been debilitating. People.com
Those are the realities that sit behind polished photographs of a glamorous 72-year-old woman.
Yet she’s still remarkably active
Gifford may no longer appear on morning television every day, but retirement hasn’t exactly suited her.
Since leaving Today, she has concentrated heavily on writing, music and faith-based projects. She has published dozens of books and continues developing creative projects from her home in Tennessee. TV Insider
She has also embraced an entirely different role:
Grandmother.
By 2026, Gifford had five grandchildren, and she spoke enthusiastically about dividing her time so she could remain close to both of her adult children and their families. Yahoo
Her life now looks considerably different from the years when an alarm clock dictated her mornings.
Her appearance still attracts attention
That hasn’t stopped people from analyzing photographs.
Whenever Gifford returns to television or attends a public event, social-media comments about her face tend to follow.
Some viewers praise how youthful she looks. Others speculate about cosmetic procedures.
But photographs alone cannot establish what procedures someone has undergone.
And in Gifford’s case, there is an unusually direct source available: Gifford herself.
She has repeatedly denied having a facelift.
She has also openly acknowledged using nonsurgical beauty treatments rather than pretending she simply wakes up looking camera-ready without effort. Fox News
That distinction often gets lost when old and new photographs are placed side by side.
She once came surprisingly close to becoming a ‘Charlie’s Angel’
One of the most revealing stories Gifford shared recently had nothing to do with cosmetic work.
Before becoming a morning-TV institution, she auditioned for Charlie’s Angels after Kate Jackson left the series in 1979.
She didn’t get the part.
Gifford recalled being told during the process that she wasn’t “Jaclyn Smith gorgeous.” Yahoo News
It is an extraordinary comment to hear decades later.
The woman who would eventually spend much of her career having strangers evaluate her appearance had experienced that judgment before she was even famous.
Yet the rejection ultimately pushed her toward a very different career — one built less around playing a glamorous character and more around being recognizably herself.
Her face tells only part of the story
There is something tempting about placing a photograph of Kathie Lee Gifford at 30 beside one of her at 72 and searching for every difference.
Hair.
Eyes.
Skin.
Jawline.
Smile.
But more than four decades separate those women.
During that time, Gifford became one of daytime television’s biggest personalities, raised two children, lost her husband Frank Gifford in 2015, left daily television, became a grandmother and endured a difficult series of medical setbacks.
Of course her appearance changed.
What makes her story more interesting is that she has spent years openly discussing the pressure behind those comparisons.
She doesn’t object to another woman choosing surgery.
She simply says a facelift isn’t the choice she wants for herself.
And the RARE PHOTOS spanning her earliest television years through age 72 capture something that a hypothetical digitally altered “before and after” image never could: more than four decades of one woman’s real life unfolding in public.
For Kathie Lee Gifford, growing older hasn’t meant trying to look exactly as she did beside Regis Philbin in 1985.
As she has repeatedly made clear, she’d rather continue looking like herself.
