Weight loss after 50 or 60 can feel impossible. Your metabolism slows down, your body holds onto fat more stubbornly, and every diet seems to fail. But I discovered something that changed everything. I stopped chasing complicated diets and started eating the same five simple foods every day. The weight came off steadily, and I never felt deprived.
Food 1: Eggs
I started every morning with two eggs. They kept me full until lunch without any cravings. Eggs are packed with protein, which helps preserve muscle mass while you lose fat. When you lose weight, you want to lose fat, not muscle. Eggs help make sure that happens.
Food 2: Leafy Greens
I added a large handful of spinach or kale to my lunch and dinner. These greens are low in calories but high in fiber and nutrients. They filled my plate without filling my stomach with empty calories. The fiber also helped keep my digestion regular and stable.
Food 3: Lean Protein
I made sure to include a source of lean protein at every meal, such as chicken breast, fish, or tofu. Protein is the most satiating nutrient. It keeps you full, stabilizes your blood sugar, and gives your body the building blocks it needs to maintain muscle and burn fat.
Food 4: Berries
I replaced my afternoon snacks with a handful of fresh or frozen berries. Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are naturally sweet and low in calories. They are packed with antioxidants that support your metabolism and protect your cells from damage. They satisfied my sweet tooth without any added sugar.
Food 5: Greek Yogurt (Plain, Unsweetened)
I ate a serving of plain Greek yogurt every day, usually as a snack or with my breakfast. It is high in protein and contains probiotics that support a healthy gut. A healthy gut is linked to better digestion, reduced inflammation, and even easier weight management.
How I Ate Them
I didn’t follow a strict meal plan. I simply made sure that every meal contained at least one of these foods. For breakfast, I had eggs with a handful of spinach. For lunch, I had a salad with chicken breast and berries on the side. For dinner, I had fish or chicken with a generous portion of greens. For a snack, I had Greek yogurt with a few berries.
The 70-Pound Transformation
The weight did not disappear overnight. It came off slowly and steadily, about 1–2 pounds per week. But because I was eating real, whole foods, I never felt like I was starving. I had more energy, my skin cleared up, and my digestion improved. After about a year, I had lost 70 pounds, and I have kept it off ever since.
A Gentle Reminder
I am not a doctor or a nutritionist. This is simply what worked for me. Your body may respond differently. Before making any major changes to your diet, consult your doctor, especially if you have underlying health conditions. But if you are looking for a simple, sustainable way to lose weight, these five foods are a great place to start. They are inexpensive, easy to find, and they work. I know because they changed my life.
